Sharon Bhagwan-Rolls
Sharon Bhagwan-Rolls is the founder and executive director of FemLINKPACIFIC, a regional women’s community media NGO, based in Fiji, and vice president of the World Association of Community Radio Broadcasters (AMARC) Pacific sub-region. Sharon is also part of the Isis International general membership governing body; and is a member of the Global Civil Society Advisory Group of UN Women. (2010)
Sharon Bhagwan-Rolls is the coordinator of femLINKPACIFIC.She is also the Pacific region focal point of AMARC-Women International, AMARC’s Asia-Pacific Board and the World Association for Christian Communication (WACC)-Global Media Monitoring Project. Sharon has also presented numerous papers and conducted trainings on the implementation of UN commitments to women, peace and security, especially through UN Security Council resolution 1325. She has also documented women’s participation in peace processes and decision making positions in Bougainville, Solomon Islands, and Fiji. Sharon has been a member of the Gender and Security Sector Reform Working Group convened by the Geneva Centre for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces (DCAF) and UN-International Research and Training Institute for the Advancement of Women (UN-INSTRAW). She has two children, Albert and Siân. (2008)
Sharon Bhagwan-Rolls helped organise, with the National Council of Women, a daily prayer vigil when Fiji’s government leaders were held hostage for 56 days during the 2000 coup. She is the Coordinator of FemLinkpacific, an organisation that advocates for community and independent Mediao using their suitcase radio for eliciting grassroots perspectives on peace and livelihood issues. She is one of the 1000 women proposed for the Nobel Peace Prize 2005. (2006)
