Virginia Vargas

Virginia “Gina” Vargas, an internationally recognised Peruvian activist, author, professor and sociologist, is also widely viewed as an international spokesperson for feminism and social justice. As an active feminist militant, she founded the Centro de la Mujer Peruana Flora Tristán (Center for Peruvian Women “Flora Tristán”) in 1978. During the 1990s, she worked as an activist and organiser in Latin America, and was actively involved in following the UN conferences and processes. Since 2001, she is actively involved in the processes of the World Social Forum, as part of its International Committee, on behalf of the Articulacion Feminista Marcosur (AFM).
