Marlene Gerber Fried

Marlene Gerber Fried is Professor of Philosophy at Hampshire College and Director of the Civil Liberties and Public Policy Program (since 1986), a program for reproductive rights education and activism. She was founding president and continues on the board of the National Network of Abortion Funds and the Abortion Rights Fund of Western Massachusetts. She is also on the board of the Women’s Global Network for Reproductive Rights. She has written and lectured widely about abortion access and reproductive freedom and justice and was part of the Johannesburg Initiative. She edited, From Abortion Rights to Reproductive Freedom: Transforming A Movement, co-authored with Jael Silliman, Loretta Ross and Elena Gutiérrez, Undivided Rights: Women of Color Organize for Reproductive Justice, November, 2004, and co-authored the chapter on abortion in the 2005 edition of Our Bodies Ourselves.
