International Conference on Eritrean Women

In cooperation with sympathisers and friends, the National Union of Eritrean Women organised an international conference in the Netherlands, 29-31 March 1985. Entitled «A New Dawn is Breaking in Eritrea,» the conference dealt with issues such as the traditional and changing role of Eritrean women, their various forms of participation in the struggle, and possibilities of advancing the struggle and building links of solidarity with women worldwide.

Women Creating Wealth: Transforming Economic Development

This conference held in Washington, USA on the 25-27 April 1985 by the Association for Women in Development sought new visions and perspectives on the development process and women's roles in solving economic problems.

Creating Choices through Feminist Education

This conference, to be held in Seattle, USA, 19-23June 1985, will have sessions on feminist education, feminist research, and feminist theory and practice. The conference, coordinated by the National Women's Studies Association, will also screen films, organise art exhibitions and plan meetings for networking proposals.

Networking and Dissemination of Audiovisual Productions

The Women and Development Department of the Institute of Social Studies (ISS) in the Netherlands is organising a conference on «Networking and Dissemination of Audiovisual Productions» on 24 June - 12 July 1985 in The Hague, Netherlands. There will be slideshow presentations and discussions on research done by ISS on six women's audiovisual groups.

Women's Emergency Conference on the New Reproductive Technologies

A conference on New Reproductive Technologies (RTs) will be held in Lund, Sweden 3-8 July 1985. It will deal with RTs such as in-vitro fertilisation, embryo transfer, artificial insemination, artificial wombs, cloning, sex pre-determination, genetic engineering and experimentation with human/animal hybrids.

During the five working days, there will be presentations and sharing of information on existing technologies; discussions on the social and personal effects; and formulating strategies for actions.

The idea of having such a conference was developed at the Second International Interdisciplinary Congress on Women in April 1984 in Sweden after a panel discussion on « Death of the Female ».
