Dear friends;
This second issue of Women in Action, the supplement to the Isis International Women's Journal, brings you news and information from the women's movement around the world.
It highlights several women's networks and groups and tells about some of the many interesting things that are happening in the women's movement in different countries of the world, especially in Africa, Asia and Latin America. As in the first issue, there are special columns on women and health, work, and tourism. This time, we have added a special column on the peace movement with information from both the North and the South.
These columns focus not only on how women's rights are being violated, as in Singapore, for example, but especially on how women are mobilizing and organizing, marching against nuclear power in the Philippines, establishing a new women and health network in Latin America, forming new groups in Africa, establishing a feminist publishing house in India and many, many more interesting developments. These are only a few pieces of the news and information which come into our resource centers from women all over the world in newsletters, papers, letters and so on. There is much too much to include everything, so watch for more news in future issues of Women in Action.
The section on the Women's Decade is quite rich. It shows that women all over the world are focusing their energy not only on preparations for the 1985 Women's Decade Conference and NGO Forum in Nairobi, but on making sure that women are heard and that women's issues are central in all aspects of society before and beyond Nairobi. One of us from Isis International participated in the NGO (Non-Governmental Organizations) preparatory consultation for Nairobi, held in Vienna in October 1984. We want to pass on the information about the Nairobi meetings to women's groups and organizations around the world so that everyone who wants to participate will have the information needed to do so. In addition to the information in this Women's Decade section, we will be circulating more reports in our coming publications.
There have been many new developments at Isis International this year. Especially exciting are the opening of our new resource center in Latin America and the production of the Isis International Women's Journal by Third World women's groups. This reorganization of our work has led to a delay in getting some of our publications out on time this year. We have almost caught up with our schedule now. We are very happy to say that our second Journal is now out. It has been produced entirely in India by the Pacific and Asian Women's Forum (PAWF) and printed by Kali for Women in New Delhi. You can look forward to Journals in 1985 produced by Brazilian women's groups on women and health and by the Committee for Asian Women on women workers. We don't want to make this too long. There is more news about us in the Isis International column. Don't miss it.
And, please remember, it is your input that makes Isis International. Keep sending us your news and information, your ideas and comments about our work as well.
