With this first issue of Women in Action, we inaugurate the Supplement to the Isis International Women's Journal. It brings you news and information about what is happening in the women's movement worldwide.
The Isis International Women's Journal and its Supplement Women in Action are the continuation of the ISIS Women's International Bulletin, produced from 1976 to 1983 by ISIS in Rome, Italy and Geneva, Switzerland. In January 1984, ISIS was transformed into two organizations: Isis International in Rome and Isis-WICCE (Women's International Cross Cultural Exchange) in Geneva. At the same time, Isis International opened a new center in Latin America.
Isis International has taken over the full responsibility of producing the Bulletin in both English and Spanish and we have transformed it into the Isis International Women's Journal and Supplement Women in Action - to strengthen it as a channel of communication for women around the world to share ideas, experiences and models for organization and action We have also increased the direct input and work of our network in the preparation of the Journal. Each issue is produced jointly by Isis International and one or more Third World women's group. These groups prepare the major part of each issue with articles and resources from their region of the world. The Isis International staff adds information and resources from women in other parts of the world.
About 100 pages in length, the Isis International Women's Journal gives in depth coverage to the issues women around the world are working on: development, health, work, violence against women, media, communication, methods of organization, models for action and more. The Women's Movement in Latin America: Produced jointly with the Organizing Committee of the Second Latin American and Caribbean Feminist Meeting, it contains papers, reports and resources from this important event.
Women and Media in Asia and the Pacific: Produced jointly with the Pacific and Asian Women's Forum (PAWF). it focuses on both the existing images of women in the media and on how women arc taking action and organizing alternative images and media.
Women in Action, the Supplement to the Journal, brings news of the women's movement around the world -- information about groups, conferences,events and resources. It updates issues covered in the Journal and those of the ISIS Women's International Bulletins as well, such as health, work, new technology, peace, tourism and prostitution. In this issue we are also including information about the work and activities of the Isis International center in Rome, Italy and Santiago, Chile.
