Neu Technology, Fragientation of the Production Process and the Rise of Homeworking Swasti Hitter Department of Business Studies Brighton Polytechnic
Brighton ENGLAND
Using the women working in the clothing industry as a point of reference, this article examines the rise in power of mnc and the application of NT - relatively cheap transport and - above all - telecommunication systems, data - processing technology, and other organizational methods which make it possible to supervise production on a global scale, and concludes that homeworking is a mnc strategy for reducing labour militancy . An excellent resource . Very highly recommended.

The words of a manager in Malaysia demonstrate the anc philosopy: "A female worker who works 1 hour produces enough to pay the salaries of 10 women workers for an entire shift , plus the costs of materials and transport.... Women are more apt, cheaper, and they don't fight for themselves. "The article describes the links between the First and Third Worlds, as well as patriarch a lattitudes toward women workers.

The Hidden Target of Telecoaauting (La Cible Nasquee du T e l e t r a v a i l) Elsbeth Nonod CESTA 5, rue Descartes F - 75005 Paris
A good backup resource for the homeworking workshop, this article shows that telecommuting is not at all gender neutral, that when women work at home, their professional activities become mixed with domestic obligations and the result is a lowered value of their paid work. This is not true for men, who keep separate office space, thus carefully maintaining their "professional" status

Processed World is in general a good resource on NT from the workers' perspective , though it could benefit from a stronger feminist analysis (it recently published pro-porn article, for example).
