Kvennasogusafn Islands, (Library of the History of Icelandic Women) Hjardarhaga 26 107 Reykjavik Iceland
Founded on the first day of the International Women's Year, 1975, by three Icelandic women, Anna Sigurdardottir, on whose collection of books, manuscripts and other material the library was initially founded, along with Else Mia Einarsddttir and Svanlaug Baldursd6ttir."The main object of the library was to further study and research of the social, political and economic history of Icelandic women in the past as well as in contemporary society". It collects and catalouges printed and unprinted material concerning women's lives and work. It to some extent, acts as an information center, making material available to scientists and interested people, including mass media in Iceland and abroad. Also collects material on the history of women internationally. Skyrsia - a report on their work, was published in December 1975. A chronological table of the principal events in the history of women in Iceland between 1730 and 1975, was also produced by them. Later this year they will publish Festschrift, a book in honour of Anna Sigurdardottir's 70th birthday. It will include articles on the women's question, as well as an article on women's libraries and collections throughout the world, by Svanlaug Baldursdottir.
