30 pp., in English
By Anjali Monteiro, ASTHA, December 1980.
This paper is an attempt to put together and understand the experience of producing and using slide-sound programs with groups of slum dwellers in India, to "stimulate a process of critical questioning of reality and attempts to change it... What exactly this would involve we were not quite clear, but there was a hope, a hope that drove us on to work, to make mistakes, to experience occasional insights and to develop through all this," says the author. Six slide-sound programs, covering the areas of health, work and myth, have been used in this study. The discussion centers on the purpose of making the series, discussions with the viewers, the viewers' responses, and future possibilities. Resumes of each of these slideshows are given in an appendix. This is an excellent paper in view of its thorough treatment of the subject and the respect it shows the viewers.
