MATCH - Canada
MATCH is a non-profit, non-governmental international development agency with a difference. It is run by and for women. It was founded by Canadian women in 1976 and inspired by the first World Conference on Women in Mexico City. It supports small community- based projects designed and run by Third World women.
It is devoted to continue the work begun at the beginning of the decade and to renew and strengthen commitment to improve the status of women worldwide.
In 1985-86 the value of overseas projects approved for funding was $289,685, while almost $255,000 was actually sent overseas. This was a considerable increase on funding in 1984-85 and MATCH reports it is continuing to grow at a substantial rate. The organization spends a lot of time networking with Third World women's groups and helping overseas project proposers to develop viable projects, even though they might not eventually be funded by MATCH. The Project Advisory Committee (PAC) provides valuable assistance to the overseas program in project selection and policy development.
