CONFERENCES
For editors, writers, translators, booksellers...
From different parts of the globe. Once more there's the opportunity to meet, discuss problems, achievements and new developments. The third International Feminist Book Fair takes place in Montreal in June 1988.
Bringing together editors of books, magazines and newspapers with writers, translators distributors and booksellers, the fair provides a forum for feminists to network and discover each other's work at the same time as making feminist authors known to a wider audience.
The organisers hope that this event will continue the international character of previous fairs, reflecting the plurality of women's experience from various cultural and economic backgrounds. The two earlier fairs were held at Oslo and London. Next year, for the first time, the fair will be held on the American continent and a special invitation is being extended to women in Latin America. The two official languages will be French and English, but some events may also be held in Spanish.
It is hoped that fruitful and thought provoking exchanges will take place through the conferences, readings and panels that will be held during this week and that a diversity of voices will be heard, especially those which are so often censured elsewhere.

On Leadership and Power...
The tenth annual conference of the National Women's Studies Association (USA) will also be held in June 1988 (2226). The focus will be "Leadership and Power: Women's Alliances for Social Change". At the moment the committee is inviting proposals for participation.
In 1988, the Association wishes to focus on coalition-building. As their leaflet states:
"As we approach the last decade of the 20th century, it is our belief that our well being and survival are dependent on the channels of communication we develop and sustain with each other...
"It is important for us to acknowledge that making connections is often extraordinarily difficult. We recognise that power and leadership are defined differently by different women and that we exercise both in different ways. During this conference, we want to explore coalition building by looking at culturally diverse leadership models that empower women..."
