Tanzania: Women's Research and Documentation Project (WRDP)

The Tanzanian Women's Research and Documentation Project at the University of Dar Es Salaam, is designed to promote the study and research of women's questions in the context of development in Tanzania, the Third World and the global socio-economy. It is inter-disciplinary and works within the theoretical framework of socialist political economy, promoting documentation, writing, publication, seminars, workshops and other forms of education, dissemination and communication. Its documentation center is used by members as well as others engaged in women-oriented studies.

The WRDP collective initiated a project called "Changing Patterns of Life and Work in the City" which focused on Dar Es Salaam. It combines archival research with personal life histories in order to relate these to broader issues of social change. Community development workers, bar girls, business women, old and young women, domestic servants, nurses, peasants, landladies, have recounted their life histories for this project. A monthly newsletter publishes letters, poems and short articles.
