Communication on Social Change

An eight-week seminar on "Communication on Social Change" designed for church, community and development workers in Asia will be held in Manila, Philippines, 9 January 10 March 1989.

Organised by the group People in Communication and co-founded by WACC, the seminar offers an "integrated preparation for communication in social change work" with four topical modules.

The modules are "Philosophy of communication and social change," "A sociological understanding of communities," "The practice of communication in social change" and "Planning for back-home application."

Cross-Cultural Black Women's Studies Summer Institute

The Institute offers a cross-cultural survey of the ways in which language, imagery and information about women of African, Asian & Pacific descent and of Arab, Latin American & indigenous American cultures are presented in the media. The Institute includes an examination of oral traditions, literature, performing and visual arts as well as press, radio, television, video and film to explore the implication for black women's lives. Emphasis will be upon developing alternative models of communication about Black women's realities that are educational and progressive, and that encourage individual and community development. Institute activities consist of a three week seminar, public forum, specialised workshops, cultural events and visitations. Provision will be made for Institute participants to pursue their own projects in communications around Black women's issues.

Global Peace

An International Women's Conference focusing on Global Peace will be held in Dallas, Texas, 8 - 12 August 1988. Participants will explore ideas on how to have peace; skills effective for peacemaking and the learning and teaching of these skills; and taking responsibility for peace in the public arena.

Women, Households and Development

An international workshop on this issue will be held on July 11- 22,1988 at Urbana, Illinois. Sponsored by different institutions and women's organisations, the workshop is a scheduled, pre-meeting event of the XVI Congress of the International Federation for Home Economics. It is open to all d professional workers and academics.

Education Towards the Year 2000

The Women's Studies Summer Program of the Mediterranean Women's Studies Institute (KEGME) provides an opportunity for a larger, more diverse community of women to conceptualise and share their experiences in education, production and society. Provides as well an opportunity for intensive study in feminist theory and its potential for transformations in educational and social practices.

DES Meeting in Brussels

DBS-Action The Netherlands and the Women's Bureau from the Green Alternative Link of the European Paraliament (GRAEL) organise on June 2-3, 1988 an European meeting on DES. The meeting will be held in Brussels and is meant for women who are interested in starting DES Action groups in their own country.
