Centre for Women and Development
This organisation, formed in November 1988 is dedicated to women's needs and aspirations. The main objectives of the organisation are the advancement, recognition and support of women in Sri Lanka. The activities of the centre are conducted with co-ordinating committees in each administrative division and a good network system has been established with them. As a first step towards its goal, the centre is conducting awareness programmes at village level, to know the various problems vexing the women. Secondly, it is intended to have leadership training programmes to train selected women from its co-ordinating monitor and income generating projects, which the centre will have as a final step.
The centre has also established a library cum documentation centre. A monthly issue "Nangai" (Woman) is being published which started in August this year.
